2006 FDU Open Weightlifting Championships

Commentary by Nick Curry:

Aaron Adams walked away with both Outstanding Junior & Senior lifter at yesterday's FDU Open competition in Madision, NJ. Aaron easily won the 62kg class with lifts of 102 & 135 totaling 237. He was oh so close with a third attempt snatch with 105 and just missed 138 in the C&J. Outstanding Female lifter Kiyo Fujimoto representing ECG lifted well within her limits doing 70+ in the snatch & 85 in the jerk. She easily cleaned 90 before missing the power jerk with the same.

Mike Reynolds took gold in the Boys/Novice Division 62kg category.

National School Age Champion Peter Musa looked a little off in the snatch but still managed a PR total of 185 with lifts of 80 & 105 in taking the silver in the 62's.

69 kgs were dominated by Team NJ's Lou Mangiaracina going 6 for 6 totaling 200 with 90 & 110.

Close compettion marked the 77 category with Mike Tirrito edging out teamate Dave Boffa 260 to 257. Rito had a 5 kg lead after the snatch with his 115 third attempt but Boffa regained some ground after second attempt jerks making a pr 147. When Rito failed with his 3rd jerk at 150 the door was open for Boffa to win on Bodyweight with the same 150. Dave was unable to rack the weight & had to be satisfied with the Silver. 3rd went to 17 year old Dan Delago representing East Coast Gold doing 107 & 135. Close behind Dan was Sean Ely with 110/125.

Peter Madow looked tremendous in breaking his PR jerk & total with 124+157 for a HUGE 281 total. Peter's technique continues to improve & with his strength & power he will be a force to be reckoned with on the National scene soon.

Second went to ECG John Lattimer with 108/145, 3rd to Dom Zanot with 110/133. In 4th position was Joe Nissm who smoked his 3rd attempt 110 snatch before running in difficulties in the C&J only making his opening 130.

We were honored by National Champion Lance Frye competing as an 85 at a light 79 kgs. Lance missed 142 in the snatch 2x's as close as one could before another close miss at 146. All three attempts were effortless. He went on to take 1 jerk at 170 which was powerful!

The Road to the Arnold starts in NJ & JP Nicoletta has a good start doing 120/151 for a nice 271 total in winning the 94's. Second went to Team NJ's Chris Oakley doing 240 total & Third to Rob Gillo with 225.

Master lifter Sally Terrell wowed the crowd with her excellent form and took gold.

105's dominated by Ed Herger making his return to the platform in NJ doing 130 before a close miss at 140 in the snatch then making 3 straight jerks finishing up with an easy 165. Second went to Joel Quintong with 114/142 holding on for the silver over Team NJ's Dave Feeley who missed his 147 jerk needed to move ahead of Joel after making a PR 110 snatch.

+105 is ALWAYS dominated by Matt Rue and this year was no exception. Matt had a perfect 4 for 4 day doing 135, 145 & smoking 155 in the snatch before retiring after an easy 160 jerk.

Kiyo Fujimoto exhibited perfect form in taking Best Female Lifter and gold.
