2006 Larry Mintz Weightlifting Championships

Samantha Smith dominated the Women's division taking the Outstanding Junior & Open Awards. After missing her opener, young Samantha made five straight EASY lifts finishing with a 56 kg snatch & 69 kg clean & jerk.


Samantha Smith lifted her way to the Outstanding Female Lifter title.

Junior lifter Nicole Spayed continues to improve demonstrating solid technique in doing lifts of 32 & 49 in the 58's.


Nichole Spayed's technique has improved under coach Rosselli.

Susan Aprill continues to improve in winning the Women's Masters Division demonstrating an explosive jerking style.


Coach Triolo has big plans for LBH master lifter Susan Aprill.


Nyiesha Napper is one of Metropolitan Barbell Club's upcoming young lifters.

The excitement started early in the men's competition with 13 year old Peter Musa having a record setting day snatching 87 and then clean & jerking 108 for an awesome 195 total in the 62's. Pete is preparing to compete in his first National Junior Champions in early March.

Another huge PR day for Peter Madow in dominating the 85 kg class with 2 personal records in the snatch of 125 & 127 followed by a huge 159 kg clean & jerk! Peter continues his climb to the top of the National 85 kg class.

94 kg class won by Metropolitan Barbell Club's Mark Louros with a pr snatch of 92 & jerking only his 105 opener. Second place won by Outstanding Master lifter Tom Hughes of LBH with 84 & 105.

Ed Herger only needed 2 snatch attempts to reach 145 done with power to spare. He followed his fine snatching with a second attempt 168 C&J before missing the clean with 175. Ed is in preparation for the upcoming Arnold Classic Weightlifting Championships where he promises to do more!

Second in the 105 kg class was Rob Kippel taking it easy going 4 for 6 with a nice 265 total. Rob demonstrated significant technical improvements in his lifting.


When Rob Kippell harnesses his immense strength he'll be a national-level lifter.

Outstanding Male Lifter went to Matt Rue who smoked his first 2 snatch's with 140 & then 150 before a close miss with 165 on his 3rd. Matt was perfect in the clean & jerk saving the best for last jerking a solid 185 on his 3rd. Matt will be competing in the upcoming USAW Pan American Team Trials in March.


American Champion Matt Rue, the last to lift, but lifts the heaviest weights.

Comeback lifter of the decade goes to LBH's Barry Rubenstein making all 6 attempts in his fine style doing 80 & 105.


Barry Rubenstein returns to his LBH and impresses the crowd with his technique.
