There was strong competition in the Men's classes. Lost Battalion Hall Weightlifting Team's 56 kg Eric Briglia took 1st lifting against himself to make a respectable 122.5 kg total. 62 kg Peter Musa, son of master lifter Joanne Musa, made a splash with a fabulous 177.5 kg total, which included a 17.7 kg over bodyweight snatch. Joe Rodriguez took the 69 kg class over Metropolitan WL Clubs Michael Viola and LBH's Gerry Dunne.
Team New Jersey headed by Nick Curry and Bob Giordano brought two promising lifters to the battle Mike Tirrito and John Vatasin. Mike took 1st place in the 77 kg with an outstanding 260 kg total. He had racked 160 kg in the C&J but was unable to make the jerk. He beat out more experienced lifters Julio Martinez and Sean Ely, who both lifted excellently. We expect to see more big lifts from Mike in the future.
Always a pleasure to watch lift was 85 kg Fatih Baydar who is an ex Junior European Champion, now lifting for Chris Smith's Metropolitan Barbell Club. Fatih dominated the class and was followed by Peter Madow and Jesse Malcom. Josh Peters took the 94 kg class in a hotly contested match against Team NJ's John Vatasin 2nd. John McNamara took 3rd. Lost Battalion Hall's master lifters Joel Jessenowski and John Stassins also made respectable totals. The 105 kg class was won by Ed Herger, followed by John Murphy, Mark Louros and master lifter Larry Konicke. The +105 kg class was dominated by Matt Rue who hoisted an incredible 330 total. He was followed by Len Bacino a master lifter for Lost Battalion Hall Weightlifting Team who took 2nd place. In the women's competition master lifter Joanne Musa took best open and master female lifter. Way to go Joanne. |
