Established in 1962

In the sport of Olympic-style weightlifting, the name Lost Battalion Hall (LBH) Weightlifting is acclaimed throughout the world as a breeding ground for weightlifting champions. The only organized Olympic-style weightlifting facility in the New York City Metropolitan area, it was established as an athletic program of the Lost Battalion Hall in 1962 by the late Morris Weissbrot. (Click here and here to read more about Morris Weissbrot.) Since then, the weightlifting program has evolved from a few barbells in a cramped basement storage room to a spacious, modern weightlifting facility encompassing 1000+ square feet and boasting 6 weightlifting platforms, 2 power racks, 4 squat racks, 15 Olympic bars, and thousands of pounds of weights.

LBH Welcomes New Members

The Lost Battalion Hall Weightlifting Team welcomes new members. With active junior (up to 20 years old), senior (21-34 years old), and masters (35 years or older) programs for lifters, we accept members of all ages and sexes.

This could be you doing a heavy clean & jerk at Lost Battalion.

Head coach Joe Triolo and assistant coaches Jeff Scott, Gerry Dunne, and Len Bacino have trained all levels of lifters. Our own Lost Battalion Hall lifter, Jessica Carerro, recently lifted in the 2007 Senior National Weightlifting Championships, the premier lifting event in the USA. And several of our lifters have lifted and placed in international competitions.

Certified USAW Coaching

Renowned for the quality of its coaching and the ardor of its weightlifters, the weightlifting program welcomes all persons interested in Olympic-style weightlifting. The Lost Battalion Hall Weightlifting Team embodies this proud tradition by providing a collegial and supportive atmosphere to train and compete. The team organizes weightlifting contests and competes in contests throughout the United States and the world. The team is a member of USA Weightlifting (USAW) and is coached by a USAW-certified coach, Joe Triolo, with over 25-years experience in the sport. Coach Triolo has developed and coached several national champions.

Assistant coaches, Mike and John, observe Oskar Novakovsky's form in the snatch. Oskar is an up-and-coming senior lifter on the team.

Member of Metropolitan Weightlifting Association

Lost Battalion Hall Weightlifting is part of the Metropolitan Weightlifting Association (MWA), which hosts four weightlifting contests a year at Lost Battalion Hall. Athletes from the New York Metropolitan and Tri-State areas, USA, Canada, and all over the world participate in these competitions. The MWA, in conjunction with the NYC 2012 Olympic Committee, hosted the USA 2002 National Weightlifting Championships. And it is noteworthy that the MWA is composed mostly of Lost Battalion Hall Weightlifting members. Lost Battalion Hall is one of several teams that belong to the MWA. The MWA fosters the sport of Olympic weightlifting in New York City and the greater New York Metropolitan area.

Lost Battalion Hall International Tournaments

The Lost Battalion Hall Weightlifting Team has sponsored International Weightlifting Tournaments. Most recently, our brother team across the pond, the Kilwinning Weightlifting Team, lifted at the 2006 Senior Metropolitan Weightlifting Championships.
